Fine Arts Bistro

I first started working at the Fine Arts Bistro when I was 14 years old, which was the summer before my freshman year. Even from a young age, I have always been a huge fan of local coffee shops because of the artistic environment, so when I first started working at the Bistro, I was very thrilled. However, I was a little too optimistic because I did not realize the intense responsibilities I would have. My responsibility list includes making coffee, answering the phone, waiting on tables, and bagging to-go orders. Although at times, it can be extremely stressful, it has allowed me to learn how to communicate with community members, understand how to multitask efficiently, and make some pretty unique coffee!

Governor School of Entrepreneurs

From July 5th to July 24th, I experienced the best three weeks of my life. I attended GSE. This camp was a modern way to have young people, like me, take the steps to become a successful entrepreneur. From sunrise to sunset, you are working. You are placed in a group of four. In this group, you will come up with a problem, and for 21 days you have to create a solution for it. With this solution, you then, on the final day, Demo Day, present your idea to a panel of businessmen and women. My group and I's problems were focused on at-home caregivers dealing with Alzheimer's. We developed an app to connect certified caregivers with spouses or loved ones who are taking over as the patient's primary caregivers. GSE taught me how to communicate with confidence, not only to a panel of judges, but also to my teammates.

Intern for Judge Executive Micheal Hale and Barren Inc.

At the beginning of this school year, I had the opportunity to get to co-op with the Judge Executive, Micheal Hale and with Barren Inc. With this Co-op, I have the responsibility of having to help plan Proclamation signing events, answer countless emails, meet the Governor and other high-ranking politicians, and I also get to have a deeper understanding of our community. On February 18th, I was able to attend a closed meeting with the Governor, Andy Beshear, and our local economic authority officials. Through this, I was able to see our community leader take initiative in seeking help from our Congress and the Governor. All of these things I would not have been able to participate in or witness if it hadn't been for this internship. Most days in the office, I schedule all of the Judge's events and try to stay up-to-date on any speaking opportunities that are available to him. At Barren Inc, I am able to witness the behind the scenes of Barren County's economic growth. I have learned how to organize various spreadsheet, create flyers for many events, and watch first hand business deals. These internships allow me to better understand politics and the intense nature the business world.

Jackie Browning Parks

In August 2021, I decided to get a second job. I did this not because my family was forcing me to, but because I knew college was coming up and I needed as much spending money as I could get. Most days at the park start around 4:30 and last until 9:30 on a school night. For these five hours, I am tasked with keeping score of the T-ball games or doing the cash register in concessions, which can be overwhelming at times. However, because I do have experience with multitasking and fast-past work environments, I adapted quickly to my responsibilities. JB has allowed me to understand how to resolve conflicts with customers and take initiative when it comes to teaching new employees.
